Introduction

Hello, my name is Stephen Taylor, I come from a town up north in west Yorkshire called Garforth. I came to the decision that I was going to study game art quite a while ago, about 2 years, when i first started college. When it came to choosing which subjects to do, art was always number one on the list, due to my enjoyment of drawing. Art therefore was a leading factor in my choice for uni. I love playing video games, and have never really been without a games console for as long as i can remember, over my gaming life and my maturing I discovered a fascination for the concept art of the games I’ve played. it's that fascination and love for art that led me to now, studying game art design at De Montfort University. This year, i aim to greatly enhance my skills in illustration and my skills of 3D modelling. At the end of the course i hope to have gained enough skill and built a large enough port-folio to become a strong candidate for a job in the games industry, that being my ambition for the future. Besides games, my other interests lie mainly in sports and music, i enjoy playing football in my spare time, also learning to play my guitar and trying to improve. My dream job is to be a concept artist for a leading games company like Codemasters, EA, Naughtydog etc... The roles and responsibilities for this kind of job are things like: demonstrating a broad range of excellent drawing abilities, a complete mastery of game development software tools needed for concept creation, Collaborates effectively with art leads during review sessions which results in the finest artistic look possible, Meets project deadlines and consistently exercises sound judgment in all areas of expertise. The essential skills given in the descriptions of these jobs include: The work must clearly demonstrate exceptional ability in the area, Fine art skills such as: drawing painting, lighting and colour, Proficiency working in Photoshop, Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, Must be receptive to art direction, perform well within a team setting and Must be responsive to schedules and work well under pressure. My skills at this point in time do not live up to the requirements of these jobs. To achieve this dream job, I need to improve my time management of producing work when needed, I also drastically need to improve my 3d modelling skills to be even remotely in with a chance of working in these industries with the high demands that they have shown in their request for new artists. I intend to practice a lot over these educational years in university, as my skills can only be developed with practice.
